I am very happy to be the proud owner of a Discovery 5 and I am happy with the way that I have been looked after by Jack. He has been informative, courteous, helpful and proactive while dealing with my queries and concerns. The positive way that I feel about what Jack has done was echoed with his colleague, Howard, who's role it was to explain the workings of the considerable tech within the car. He was excellent and informative and went to great lengths to make sure that my wife and I were comfortable with how to get the most out of driving experience. In contrast to this positivity is the way in which the management of the branch have made me feel. When I got my Land Rover Approved 91 plate vehicle home I was surprised to discover that the tailgate was malfunctioning and I, naturally, wanted to resolve the problem asap. I drove the 30 minutes back to the branch in Guildford to be met by Howard who checked out the problem. It was his assessment that the vehicle need to go to be fixed and at this point I stated that I was unhappy to drive my new vehicle home as I felt that it was unlockable and uninsured as a result. I was more than a little surprised to find out that the branch was more than a little surprised by my request. He was quick to point out that all of the current stock of demo vehicles were being used by company employees. While I was extremely happy for them; it did leave me in the slightly awkward position of having to get a taxi home or even call my wife to do the one hour round trip. Again, I was more than a little surprised that I needed to point that this was not ideal and that it might be a reasonable gesture, in light of the situation, that a loan vehicle be found. I couldn't help feeling that I was rather unpopular and that I would, perhaps, have been better off spending my hard-earned money with Mercedes or BMW. At no point was there a sense of empathy on the part of the manager, while Howard was the very epitome of what that word means. Had he not been there to calm my ire there may well have been harsher exchanges. In hindsight it might be amusing to consider that, baring in mind I had just bought a 2 tonne, seven-seater family vehicle, that the loan vehicle that was first offered to me was a 2-seater Jaguar sports car! The message must have hit home though, because by some miracle, a Discovery just like mine appeared. I was able, after a further thirty five minute delay while the relevant insurance paperwork was drawn-up, to be on my way back home. It was not in the slightest bit amusing to stand in the showroom while the paperwork was prepared and see the various office dwellers, who lurk behind the sales desks, having a lovely time laughing and joking about something. They all avoided eye contact with me and took no responsibility at all for my predicament. While I know that they didn't make the car or cause the problem personally it would have gone a long way towards retrieving the rapidly disappearing customer 'feelgood factor' if one of these suits had been brave enough to show a little sympathy or if I would like a drink of anything. While the car is superb, the service has been, at times, woeful. I would consider it a suitable level of compensation if I was, at least, reimbursed for the mats.
