The All-New Volkswagen ID.Buzz

As part of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Roadshow we were excited to attend the unveiling of the all-new ID.Buzz at Inchcape Volkswagen Van Centre in Manchester. A big step in VWCV’s progress towards carbon neutrality.

This allowed a few lucky members of the Inchcape team a first glimpse of this exciting all-new product which hints at the future of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The all-new electric van was hidden under a cover when we arrived and unveiled to add to the drama, a member of the Volkswagen UK team showed us around and we enjoyed learning about the vehicle and getting hands on.

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz features a strikingly modern, yet retro design which stays true to the exciting concept vehicles launched in 2017. Despite the practicality on offer, the ID.Buzz’s rakish windscreen and smooth design provides a drag coefficient of just 0.29Cd which helps boost electric range and increase refinement. 

The slender LED headlights feature an LED light bar which stretches across the front of the MPV, whilst the large VW badge echoes back to the brand’s historical roots. The rear doors slide open to give easy access and these may be electrically operated in the future. Round the rear of the ID.Buzz, there are striking LED taillights and a three-bar design on the rearmost pillars. Topping of the design are the range of stunning two-tone paintwork options on offer and the large alloy wheels.

Inside the ID.Buzz is just as desirable and continues to be practical with clever touches throughout. There are eight USB-C charging points, and the Buzz Box sits between the front seats and serves as an armrest whilst also housing an ice scraper, bottle opener, bottle storage and large storage drawer. Other technology includes the Virtual Cockpit Display and large 12” central touchscreen.

VW’s focus on being carbon neutral from manufacture to delivery is a priority for the brand and part of this is the removal of leather in the cabin, instead the VW ID.Buzz features sustainable materials with recycled plastic within them.

In the future there will be a GTX model which will provide more power and sports styling.

The ID.Buzz uses similar technology to that found in the ID.3 and ID.4 models. Details are yet to be fully confirmed but that should mean the ID.Buzz has 201bhp and 310Nm of torque powering the rear wheels. This will give the ID.Buzz a responsive driving feel whilst the 77KWh battery should provide over 250 miles of range and be capable of rapid charging to allow a recharge from 10-80% in around 30 minutes.
