Five Models We Can't Wait to Drive in 2019

There’s a lot to look forward to as New Year approaches, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to the motor industry. From the hottest of hatches to electrified classics and revamped favourites, we’ll be seeing some great new models in 2019. It’s tough to choose only five, but here we take a look at five offerings we simply can’t wait to get behind the wheel of.

Mercedes-AMG A45

Never mind hot hatches, next year’s Mercedes-AMG A45 falls into the hyper hatch bracket. The nippy A-Class has received a serious going over from the good folk at AMG, who have made the wonderful decision to bless the A45 with around 400hp. The exterior design has the aggressive styling to match what’s under the bonnet, with the new Mercedes Panamerica vertical rung grille offering a less than subtle clue to that powerful engine. Low-slung bumpers, four meaty exhausts and optional carbon fibre features will welcome you into a cockpit full of AMG detailing, including smart sports seats, carbon trim and the new Mercedes MBUX infotainment system.

BMW Z4

After going on hiatus for a couple of years, the BMW Z4 is back with a bang. Returning to a soft-top guise with a roof that takes 10 seconds to unfold at speeds of up to 31mph, the Z4 is wider, meaner and more intelligent than ever before. There’s a new take on BMW’s iconic kidney grille, a powerful M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine, and an M40i version which dishes out 340hp. The German marque is looking to take on the Porsche Boxter with the latest iteration of the Z4, so a thrilling driving experience is sure to be in store once we get to take one of these out on the B-roads.

MINI EV

It may be celebrating its 50th birthday in 2019, but the iconic British brand’s never been as modern or relevant. The MINI hatch takes a giant leap into the future next year, with the first all-electric model hitting showrooms across the country. The spiritual forebear for all city cars will look very similar to the current 3-door hatch, but the MINI EV has some funky design cues including a distinctive new front grille and sporty air intakes. It should be as fun to drive as ever, with an anticipated range approaching 200 miles thanks to advances in battery technology.

Audi e-tron

Continuing with our journey along electric avenue, another major manufacturer is taking a significant step on the road to cleaner, greener motoring next year. The Audi e-tron is a fully electric premium SUV that will deliver a dynamic driving experience from a package that’s similar in size to the Audi Q5. It will ferry you from 0 to 60 in less than six seconds while you sit back in refined luxury, with a full charge giving a range of around 250 miles. Energy recuperation will account for up to 30% of the e-tron’s total range, and you can choose between different modes to decide how aggressively your car targets recuperation. You may also be able to choose a souped-up RS version, which will serve up even more performance for when you want to get your foot down.

Porsche 911

The 911 is the heart and soul of Porsche, and 2019 is going to be a big year for you if you love the Stuttgart sports car maker. The unmistakable 911 profile will remain, but there are some notable detail changes in the latest revamp, including a new grille and redesigned rear end. The interior’s set for a major shake-up too, where you’ll get Porsche’s latest infotainment system and a pair of high-resolution displays. Even more intriguingly, this version of the 911 is set to receive a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the near future, although we’re unlikely to see that for at least a couple of years.

Why not let us know which of these five you’re looking forward to most? Keep an eye on our new car range in 2019, and you could get your hands on one of these incredible models.
