Keeping you moving.

With smart road assistance you can rest easy knowing your smart is in good hands in case of accident, breakdown, minor mishap, or vandalism. If your smart encounters trouble, you’ll be able to get back on your way with smart road assistance thanks to benefits such as breakdown repair and towing, hotel accommodation and a replacement car.

All smarts registered* on or after 01/11/2014, will benefit from smart road assistance for three years. After this, your smart road assistance will be automatically renewed for a year every time your smart goes in for an official smart service for up to 30 years.

Assistance wherever you are.

Whether your smart breaks down at roadside, home, or work, we’ll come to you wherever you are.

Hotel accommodation.

If you prefer to stay locally, we’ll cover the cost of bed and breakfast accommodation for the driver and passengers while the repairs are carried out, up to three working days.

On-the-spot repairs.

If the required repair is a minor one, and can be completed at the roadside, we will cover the cost of labour and small part. This excludes batteries (unless covered by warranty)/tyres/keys/fluids.

Vehicle repatriation.

If you breakdown far from home, we will arrange to take your car back to your local smart Retailer if the repair cannot be completed within 3 working days.


If required, we will organise and cover the cost of towing your car to the local smart Retailer, or an alternative smart Retailer of your choice (within a radius of 30 miles) of the breakdown location).

Vehicle drop-off.

If you breakdown locally, once the repair is complete, we will arrange and cover the cost of the return of your car, to your home, within a 30 mile radius of the smart Retailer.

Replacement travel.

To help you on your journey, we’ll cover the cost of a taxi or public transport. If your journey requires train or plane travel, we’ll cover the cost for return flight or train travel for the driver and passengers as an alternative to a replacement car.

Customer assistance.

Whenever and wherever you are, our Roadside Assistance team are here for you - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, anywhere in the UK or Europe.

Replacement car.

If we can’t get your smart back on the road immediately, we’ll provide you with a replacement car for the duration of your repair, up to three working days.

smart road assistance does not apply to the listed countries’ overseas territories nor outside Europe.

smarts registered* before 31/10/14 are covered by smartmove assistance unconditionally for 2 years from their original registration date. Cover includes the following:

This will allow our Customer Assistance Centre to decide whether your vehicle –

  • Requires assistance at the location
  • Can be driven to your nearest smart Retailer, or,
  • Needs to be booked in for a workshop visit
