Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a new benefit replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for people aged between 16 to 64 years. PIP and DLA cannot be claimed at the same time.
PIP has been designed to help towards some of the extra costs arising from having a long-term health condition or disability that is expected to last for 12 months or longer. It is assessed on how a person's condition affects their daily life, not the condition they have.
PIP is made up of 2 components: a Daily Living component and a Mobility component. Each component has two rates, standard and enhanced. If you qualify for PIP, you will get money for one or both components.
As a Motability car is on a leasing deal, you cannot purchase the car at the end of the deal. However, there are three options for you consider at the end of your Motability lease agreement:
- You may be able to keep your current car by extending your expiring lease.
- Lease a new car through Motability.
- Return your car, reinstating your allowance.
As listed in the terms and conditions, it is important to remember that the Motability vehicle is used for the benefit of the disabled person. This does not mean the disabled person needs to be in the vehicle though, such as going to the shops on the behalf of the disabled customer.
Misuses do include commercial activities such as unauthorised business purposes and can include activities such as using the vehicle for delivery or taxi driving. Misuse of the Motability vehicle could incur penalties such as termination from the lease or exclusion from the Motability scheme.
As the customer’s allowance is used to cover the cost of the vehicle lease, it is only possible to have one Motability car per customer.
If you are already a Motability customer and are looking at your next vehicle, you can order your next car three months before the end of your current lease. However, we recommend that think about which vehicle a few months before to make sure you get the perfect car for your needs. Feel free to discuss your next Motability lease at any point with one of our Motability dealers who will be happy to help and offer advisement.
