About Motability

Cars Available from £0 Advance Payment

As a recognised partner of the Motability Scheme, Inchcape have highly-trained experts to help you with every aspect of the Motability process. From eligibility and financing, right through to finding the right vehicle to suit your requirements, we have the knowledge and expertise to help make the process simple.

About Motability

The Motability scheme is in place to allow people to lease a new car or wheel chair accessible vehicle (WAV) in exchange for their mobility allowance. The choice of vehicle is up to you, with a wide range of vehicles, trim levels and prices available at Inchcape. After selecting your chosen vehicle and any modifications, paying for your new vehicle could not be easier, the payments being deducted from your mobility allowance. A standard lease trough Motability runs over the course of three years, or five if you are leasing a WAV.

You might eligible for the Motability Scheme if you receive one of the below mobility allowances, along with 12 months award length remaining on this allowance.

  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of PIP (Personal Independence Payment)
  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of DLP (Disability Living Allowance)
  • AFIP (Armed Forces Independence Payment)
  • WPMS (War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement)

Rather than collecting a PIP allowance (Personal Independence Payment) this can be exchanged to lease a vehicle from a manufacturer using the Motability Operations programme. It's that simple!
Once you have chosen your desired vehicle and found a retailer near you, you will need to arrange an appointment and bring the following:
  • Driver's license(s)
  • A recent utility bill
  • Certificate of entitlement for your award from either DWP or Veterans UK
  • A brand new car every 3 years
  • All servicing, maintenance & repairs included
  • Accident and breakdown cover included
  • Insurance cover provided by the RSA Motability (RSAM)
  • A range of adaptations where needed
  • Up to two named drivers
The above benefits come as standard on the Motability scheme but some Manufacturer's schemes may vary. Select a brand partner above to find out more.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a new benefit replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for people aged between 16 to 64 years. PIP and DLA cannot be claimed at the same time.

PIP has been designed to help towards some of the extra costs arising from having a long-term health condition or disability that is expected to last for 12 months or longer. It is assessed on how a person's condition affects their daily life, not the condition they have.

PIP is made up of 2 components: a Daily Living component and a Mobility component. Each component has two rates, standard and enhanced. If you qualify for PIP, you will get money for one or both components.

As a Motability car is on a leasing deal, you cannot purchase the car at the end of the deal. However, there are three options for you consider at the end of your Motability lease agreement:

  • You may be able to keep your current car by extending your expiring lease.
  • Lease a new car through Motability.
  • Return your car, reinstating your allowance.

As listed in the terms and conditions, it is important to remember that the Motability vehicle is used for the benefit of the disabled person. This does not mean the disabled person needs to be in the vehicle though, such as going to the shops on the behalf of the disabled customer.

Misuses do include commercial activities such as unauthorised business purposes and can include activities such as using the vehicle for delivery or taxi driving. Misuse of the Motability vehicle could incur penalties such as termination from the lease or exclusion from the Motability scheme.

As the customer’s allowance is used to cover the cost of the vehicle lease, it is only possible to have one Motability car per customer.

If you are already a Motability customer and are looking at your next vehicle, you can order your next car three months before the end of your current lease. However, we recommend that think about which vehicle a few months before to make sure you get the perfect car for your needs. Feel free to discuss your next Motability lease at any point with one of our Motability dealers who will be happy to help and offer advisement.

Yes, you are allowed to smoke in a Motability vehicle as it is hired by customers for private use. The “Smoke-Free” legislation does not apply to private vehicles.

Yes, you can change your Motability car before the end of your lease if you can provide a valid reason. This does require an administration fee of up to £250 and you will not be eligible for the ‘good condition bonus’.
