Jaguar Land Rover announce justDrive system

Jaguar Land Rover has revealed its all-new justDrive software – an industry leading smartphone app that integrates multiple apps into one, voice-controlled in-car experience.

The next stage of its award-winning InControl infotainment system – justDrive is developed by California based CloudCar and is compatible with both Apple iOS8 and Android mobiles.

Utilizing one of the most advanced voice recognition packages in use today – justDrive gives users a slick, voice-activated interface with a number of apps and services including Twitter, Spotify and Yelp.

These apps will join a list of 17 other apps that are currently in Jaguar Land Rover’s InControl Apps in-car infotainment system including IheartRadio, Stitcher and Parkopedia.

Available to download from early next year, there will be no charge for justDrive which will offer users continuously updated apps and services during their entire vehicle ownership.

Director of Research and Technology at Jaguar Land Rover, Dr Wolfgang Epple, said, ““Our InControl system already allows the driver to plug their smartphone into the vehicle and then safely control their apps through the vehicle’s touchscreen. The apps are enhanced for in-car use, so it is exactly like having your smartphone installed in your dashboard”.

Adding, “Today, we are advancing our InControl system a stage further and to the forefront of the industry with the launch of justDrive. This moves the driver from the task-oriented, app-specific touch-based use of individual apps, to full control of all chosen app content through plain natural speech or touch interface.”

justDrive’s plain speech recognition package is so intelligent that users can comminute naturally with their vehicle rather than using simple syntax commands.

One of the many benefits of the justDrive system is its ability to find the best results to a user’s request from among the many application and services that it has accumulated.

Instead of the driver having to decide which navigation app to search when looking for the nearest petrol station or restaurant – they simply leave it in the capable hands of justDrive.

Drivers can also dictate and send a tweet or text message simply by saying, “Tell George I’ll be late” – justDrive will read the message content and then read it back to you before its sent.

The driver can dictate and then send a tweet or SMS by simply saying: ‘Tell George I’ll be late’, with justDrive reading the content of the message back to you before it is sent. You can also ask justDrive to play a particular song, just by asking for it.

Dr Epple added that, “While our aim is to significantly enhance the driving experience through unprecedented levels of connectivity, we also want to reduce driver distraction. So we have worked closely with the CloudCar team to ensure justDrive is ‘right for driving”.

Jaguar Land Rover’s award-winning InControl system comes as standard with every Land Rover vehicle.
