1 Series vs 3 Series - which one is right for you?

As a premium vehicle retailer, BMW offer high quality products throughout the range, and with both the 1 Series and 3 Series ranges, you have a multitude of options to pick the right car for you.

Despite the similarities, the hatchback 1 Series and saloon 3 Series offer different experiences for the driver and have different attributes.

The 1 Series hatchback is available as a three or a five-door version and thanks to BMW’s eye for detail, it has plenty of great accessories as standard, including EfficientDynamics economic features, crash sensors and BMW Navigation System, Professional Radio and Online Services to name but a few.

Our 1 Series models also have different trim levels depending on your style and the performance you want, including the M Performance package, which adds a straight-six 3-litre engine and M Sport design features that add a sporty edge to the hatchback design.

Available with both petrol and diesel engines, which can offer in excess of 56mpg and 78mpg respectively, you can get the feel and drive you want too, with multiple options ranging from the 1.5-litre three-cylinder engines at the lower end up to the 3-litre six-cylinder offerings at the high end.

The hatchback's larger rear end means plenty of space in the boot compartment and could be considered more practical day-to-day.

The saloon 3 Series is a world-leading model, thanks to superb design, reliability and accessories on hand to help make it a top choice. Starting with 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engines in the 318i SE, BMW offer a great range of economical yet very well performing units that help to push every model to 60 in under 9 seconds, with the top end M3 30 Jahre Special Edition getting up to speed in 4 seconds.

With ConnectedDrive Services, Head-Up Display, Parking sensors and Drive Assist features, there is plenty on offer and as well as the X Drive all-wheel drive system, you have stability assured with the Dynamic Stability Control sensors and precise handling.

With a superb finish inside to make it not only a great car to drive, but also a nice car to sit in thanks to leather trim and aluminium detailing around the dash. You get a premium feel whenever you sit in a 3 Series, which helps to make it one of the best cars on the market.

Both have excellent features and characteristics to define them as models, with the hatchback 1 Series offering more practicality for the run around and the 3 Series saloon offering sporty and exhilarating performance.

The 1 Series starts from £20,930, whilst the 3 Series has a starting price of £25,160. For more information on both models or any of the other BMW models in the range, contact your nearest Cooper BMW Centre.
